2016 Pennant Throwbacks

Time to throw it back to an insert from my first year of blogging, Pennant Throwbacks. Being the "retro" product of the Spirit line makes it a no-brainer.

Like the 2016 Pennant base design, these are more "modern retro" and don't call back to the reeeeeally old eras like Allen & Ginter and Gypsy Queen do. The design is simple with just a grainy solid color background and player cutouts with them in their throwback duds. The team logos are of the era captured by the uniforms. The Choo is an example of the relic parallel, here featuring the Rangers' baby blues.

The back keeps the elements from the front with a brief write-up of the throwback game depicted. I tried to replicate the toothy feel that the printed cards would have, diluting the colors a bit and making them less vibrant than a modern glossy card would show.

#766 - Brandon Kintzler, #767 - Eduardo Nunez, #768 - Eric Campbell
The Campbell card looks like he's catching a fly ball hit just short of the infinite void but I actually just photoshopped a gaudy ad off a black outfield fence.

#769 - Brandon McCarthy, #770 - Fernando Abad, #771 - Jake Diekman
A couple of stringbean pitchers here. I don't know if Diekman is as funny as McCarthy, though.

#772 - Justin Wilson, #773 - Pat Neshek, #774 - Odrisamer Despaigne
Poor Padres' fans. Where do you even start figuring out a cheer for Despaigne that isn't murder on your tongue?

#775 - Brandon Hicks, #776 - James Paxton, #777 - Cesar Ramos
It's a shame Hicks didn't quite work out long term for the Giants. It was pretty cool having three quarters of their infield named Brandon. At least he'll get a ring if the Giants happen to win the World Series.

#778 - Shin-Soo Choo, #779 - Dustin McGowan, #780 - Aaron Barrett
It's too bad that year one of Choo's seven-year contract was wasted in 2014. Hopefully they can rebound in the next couple seasons before he really starts to decline.
